The paper has been published as a triennial publication
under the supervision of Prof. Jiro Kondo, chairman of the Science
and Technology Foundation of Japan ( former chairman of the Science
Council of Japan), with Professor Hideaki Nakada of the Faculty
of Fisheries as chairman of the editorial committee. .
The paper consists of the following three chapters.
ChapterⅠ Sea of Japan
The characteristics of the Sea of Japan is stated from the viewpoint
oceanography, including the topography, hydrography and geology,
etc.
ChapterⅡ Sea of Japan and People
It described how the Sea of Japan has been related with the people’s
culture and life in Northwest Pacific region. Especially it touches
upon exchanges conducted through the Sea of Japan and depict part
of the life of people living in coastal areas, groping for how
the sea is closely related with people.
Chapter Ⅲ Environment of Northwest Pacific Region and its
Protection
It puts together the numerical data and information concerning
the marine environment and materials on the environmental administration
of each country of Northwest Pacific region (Japan, China, Korea
and Russia). It also refers to regional environmental cooperation
among the region including Japan). ( It is very difficult to sufficiently
depict the whole picture of Northwest Pacific region because of
the discrepancy of the related countries in monitoring parameters
and measuring method, the degree of public information )
