2003 White Paper on the Environment of the Northwest Pacific Region (English Version) published Northwest Pacific Region Environmental Cooperation Center (NPEC) has published an English version of "the State of the Environment of the Northwest Pacific Region 2003" after the issue of the Japanese edition. [Outline] Chapter 1 the Sea of Japan The characteristics of the Sea of Japan are stated from the viewpoint of oceanography, including topography, hydrography and geology, etc. Chapter2 the Sea of Japan and People It describs how the Sea of Japan has been related with the people's culture and life in the Northwest Pacific region. Especially it touches upon exchanges conducted through the Sea of Japan and depicts part of the life of people living in coastal areas, groping for how the sea is closely related with people. Chapter 3 Environment of the Northwest Pacific Region and its Protection It puts together the numerical data and information concerning the marine environment and materials on the environmental administration of each country of Northwest Pacific region (Japan, China, Korea and Russia). It also refers to regional environmental cooperation among the region including Japan. ( It is very difficult to sufficiently depict the whole picture of the Northwest Pacific Region because of the discrepancy among the related countries in monitoring parameters and measuring methods and the degree of information disclosure public.)
